Got my stitch on…

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

It’s been awhile since I stitched anything and I had this Sublime Stitching pattern for , oh I don’t know, a YEAR…so I finally decided to stitch it up.  It took me about 2 days to do it since the only time I get to any stitching is when Jackson is asleep. I think I’m going to add more hair but for now I think it came out cool.

Flea Market Cuteness

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Last weekend me, my mom, Jackson and my sister went to the annual flea market they have in Richmond Town , which is not too far from my house. Staten Island isn’t really known for their flea markets and I’ll tell you why…they kinda suck. There was only a handful of good vendors selling vintage furniture, knick knacks and linens. I did happen to get a a couple of vintage place mats for 5 bucks and a pair of pants for Jackson for a dollar so that was a win. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shinning and there was a cool fall breeze that I’ve been waiting for. I love hoodie weather. Now if only it wasn’t 85 degrees outside again…

I got the Chain Stitch down…go me!!

Photobucket

With some practice and lots of patience, I finally did the chain stitch. This was my first project using this stitch.  It’s not perfect but in time I hope to get better.  I think it came out ok  for a newbie =)

This was also my first go at stitching on quilting cotton and using metallic thread.  It’s still a WIP.

I used DMC floss and Kreinik gold Metallic #8

I saw this print at Target a while back and loved it. I knew I wanted it for Jackson so I put it on my mental list of stuff to buy sooner or later.  Fast forward to last week when I went through my Sublime Stitching book and saw   the alphabet patterns…

I stitched on felt using the backstitch:

I drew the heart with pencil and filled it in with the back stitch, as you can see I had some trouble with the sizing of the heart which resulted in pencil marks on the felt. oops=/

I knew I wanted to paint the hoop black or red…

I went with black, I’m really happy with the end result. And I saved 20 bucks. whoo hoo!

What I’ve been up to…

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

A little pin cushion I whipped up. It’s the first one I ever made so it’s not that great but I like it anyway. I got the pattern out of Jenny Heart’s book ” Sublime Stitching: Hundreds of Hip Embroidery patterns“.

birds the word

Fafi “Gwen”. I used a transfer pen and stitched it on felt then used colored pencils to fill her in.

This little cupcake was a free pattern that came with the Sublime Stitching carbon paper. It was my first try at copying a picture and stitching onto a tote bag.

Cheech Wizard. It’s still a work in progress, I’m still filling it in and working on my seed stitch..

The rest of these patterns are from Tara McPherson for Sublime Stitching artist series.

This was my first project, a bib for Jackson. I love Mr. Wiggles!

wiggle it, just a little bit..

This is one of my favorite Tara Mcpherson prints so I was super excited to stitch it. I also did floss blending for the heart..

This one took me forever, I’m happy how it came out. It was my first try at the satin stitch.

So as you can see I’ve been a little busy. I usually stitch at night when Jackson goes to bed. It kinda helps me zone out and unwind from the day. I’m still pretty new so I don’t have every stitch down yet but I’m working on it. I’m going to try to update more, I have a few project’s in the works, and hopefully not negligent my blog. I miss you guys!!!

I’m on Flicker   http://www.flickr.com/photos/bubblegumponys/ , so come say hi!

ok peeps… catch you later

So this year I decided I wanted to get into embroidery. I remember back in day when I was a Girl Scout we would embroider handkerchiefs for our dads for fathers day. I still have my fathers, with the big blue H  (his name was Hector) stitched on the corner and his Girl Scout medals attached to it.

I got inspired to do embroidery when I was looking for crafts to do on , of course, Martha Sweart.com and came across the link for SUBLIME STITCHING. I remembered always seeing the ad for SS in the back of Juxtapoz Magazine and thought that the prints were super cute and different from anything you find at Micheal’s or Joanne’s.

When I clicked on the link and saw what Sublime had to offer I was sold…

The owner and creator of Sublime Stitching is Jenny Heart. She designs the patterns and is a pro stitcher. Along with her own designs, there are also Artist Series you can choose from : Tara Mcpherson, Molly Crabapple, Julie West, and Jim Woodring to name a few.

I put my order in for the Ultimate Embroidery Kit and I can’t wait to get it. I think my first project will be a bib for Jackson <3

Yay to hobby #375! I think I’m going to need a crafting room…

ps. We should totally have a craft party, cause you know, going out and getting wasted is so 2009.

=D
